Sony Ericsson added three new smartphones to its Xperia smartphone lineup, the world's smallest Android HD video recording smartphone (the Xperia mini), the Japanese-friendly Xperia acro and the compact Xperia mini pro.

The Xperia mini and mini pro follow in the footsteps of Sony Ericsson's original mini series, while the Xperia acro is a device customized to suit the needs of high-tech Japanese mobile users.

"We wanted to provide consumers even greater choice across the Xperia range, while building on the success of the original mini series. These turbo-charged smartphones now contain even more power, enhanced functionality, a larger screen and premium features unique to Sony Ericsson," said Steve Walker, head of marketing, Sony Ericsson.

The Xperia mini pro has a 3" scratch-resistant, touchsensitive display, an improved user interface, a slide-out keyboard, and pre-loaded Office Suite and McAfee antivirus software.

The Xperia mini sports the same 3" touchsensitive display, Android 2.3 operating system, built-in social networking features, 1GHz processor and 5MP camera as the Xperia mini pro and adds a front-facing VGA camera for video chat and handwriting recognition to its list of attributes.

Sony Ericsson's flagship Japanese Xperia device packs in mobile TV, an infrared port for data sharing with other devices, a mobile wallet for on-the-go mobile payments, an extra wide 4.2" display, an 8.1MP camera, HD video recording and a built-in HDMI-connector.

The Xperia mini pro and Xperia mini will be available from Q3 2011. The Xperia acro will arrive in Japan this summer. No prices have been announced.
