Apple releases first look at iPhone 12

Apple has unveiled four new 5G iPhones, together with other new and updated devices.

The new iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max come with a complete redesign and a range of new colours. Inside is a new camera system including new photo-editing tools and improved processors.

Apple also unveiled a the HomePod Mini, a new $99 smart speaker.

The iPhone Pro models feature Super Retina XDR displays that feature nearly 3.5 million pixels. A neural engine brings something called “Deep Fusion” to the three-lens array cameras.

It’s $699 for the iPhone 12 mini and $799 for the iPhone 12. They’re essentially the same phone, with all the same features, only the size separates them.

We’re now on the roof of Apple HQ to hear about its environmental credentials. 

It’s big pledge is to be carbon neutral by 2030. Not bad, but not as good as some of its rivals. Microsoft plans to be carbon negative by the same year.

The iPhone 12 also features MagSafe technology, which significantly improves wireless charging. This also allows a whole new host of accessories that can snap onto the back of the phone.

The A14 bionic chip also improves the camera, bringing night mode to the front-facing camera and bringing the “highest quality video of any smartphone”.

The new iPhone 12 will be four-times stronger than its predecessors, and a lot more powerful. A new A14 bionic chip, combined with 5G support, means users can now play video games like League of Legends that were previously only possible on desktop computers.
