Apple to launch 'Apple One' subscription to bundle together all of its services, report claims

Apple is planning to launch an "Apple One" subscription to bundle together its various services, according to a new report.

The subscription would allow users to bring together the variety of different paid-for services that Apple offers – from Apple Music to its Arcade gaming service – under one payment, Bloomberg reported.

It could also include other, new services, such as fitness. Apple has been rumoured to be working on new tools that would allow people to access workout tutorials from their iPhone and Apple Watch, taking on companies such as Peloton that offer at-home fitness services.

By doing so, it hopes to encourage people to subscribe to more of its services, the site said. Apple has been focusing on subscription revenue in recent times, as it looks to diversify away from its more traditional business of selling hardware such as iPhones and Macs.

The new "Apple One" service could launch as soon as October, alongside the upcoming iPhone, Bloomberg reported.

Apple has been forced to delay that iPhone launch event because of problems arising from the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns, it said last month. It did not say exactly when the release would happen instead, or how the launch will take place given its staff continues to work largely from home.

Bloomberg suggested that there will be a number of different bundles available to subscribers.

Tying together the subscriptions in such a way has been pursued by rivals including Amazon, in its Prime subscription. While that began as a way of getting unlimited next-day postage, it now offers a host of different and apparently unconnected services, including streaming TV and films and photo storage.
