Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tony Agana and Devon White scored the goals that gave the First Division strugglers Notts County victory in the Anglo-Italian Cup, their first trophy at Wembley.
In front of a crowd of 11,704, the victory helped make up for last year's 1-0 defeat by Brescia and provided the Midlands club with a morale boost in their endeavours to avoid relegation.
All the goals came in the first half. Agana touched in a long throw from Andrew Legg to give Howard Kendall's side the lead. Ascoli recovered and after 32 minutes Shaun Murphy's clearance rebounded to the Italian striker, Walter Mirabelli, who calmly equalised.
If County's first goal owed much to the power of Legg's arms, then their winner was down to the leaping power of White. The former Queen's Park Rangers forward rose way above the Italians' defence, powerfully heading in Paul Devlin's cross from the right.
