Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sheffield Wednesday lost their 100 per cent record at home to Chelsea, but take the view that - despite their home draw with Aston Villa yesterday - Chelsea remain a good each-way bet for the Premiership this season and there are reasons for believing that Wednesday can surprise Arsenal at Highbury tonight. The Gunners failed to impress against Borussia and, while everyone is entitled to a hobby, the revelations about Tony Adams's at the weekend, will not have boosted morale.

Blackburn, who deserved a point at St James's Park against Newcastle on Saturday, look a fair bet at around 11-10 to beat Brentford away in the Coca Cola Cup second round first leg tomorrow. Derby County (4-6) a respectable ninth in the Premiership after beating Sunderland one-nil, can beat Luton away while Sunderland (evens) will find life easier at Watford.

On Wednesday, Chelsea (1-2) should have no problems in rolling over Blackpool away. And Coventry, who showed plenty of spirit to beat Leeds, look good at 8-11 to beat Birmingham at home. Other multiple bet bankers include Everton (1-6), who looked unlucky not to get a point at home to much improved Middlesbrough on Saturday, and have only got to show up at Goodison Park to beat York, while Hereford have got as much chance as a piece of toast against Middlesbrough (1-8) at the Riverside stadium. And in-form Wimbledon (2-5) should overwhelm Portsmouth at home.
