Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. This weekend the redeveloped Bute East Dock in Cardiff, with its shops and restaurants, will be a busy place, if only on the water. The large dock stages the Formula One British championship, the fifth round of the Formula One world championship and the second round of the Formula Three world championship. A national event for Formula Four tops up the noisy mixture as the catamarans race up and down the dock. On the inland circuit, the two-litre Formula One boats can accelerate from 0-60mph in less than two seconds. At Cardiff, they will achieve speeds in excess of 120mph. Jonathan Jones, from Cardigan and three-times world champion, will have the local support, while Steve Kerton, of Cricklade, second in the championship, is tipped to do well.
Where to watch: Bute East Dock, Cardiff, is RAC signposted on A48 from M4. Spectators can watch the racing from the Central Link side of the dock. Tomorrow, heats and qualifying start at 12.45pm. On Sunday, final qualifying begins at 11.45am and the racing proper follows it.
