Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Graham Hyde

Sheffield Wednesday

DANNY WILSON may have mixed feelings about fancy-dan Italians but even that has not helped gritty midfielder Hyde - a regular under Ron Atkinson last season - gain favour with the new Wednesday manager, who has not picked the 28-year-old since August. Danny Sonner's arrival from Ipswich has done nothing to improve his prospects.

Alan Smith

Leeds United

SMITH'S GOAL with his first touch in senior football won him instant fame as Leeds gained a rare triumph at Liverpool and after scoring again against Charlton on Saturday established him as a favourite with Leeds fans - not bad for an 18-year-old whose career was in doubt after he quit the FA's National School of Excellence through homesickness.

Should things go belly up at Wednesday, with those rounded Wigan vowels, our Danny's made for the Street. Come to think of it, if he dyed his hair he could be a ringer for Fred Elliott's dopey nephew, Ashley (aka actor Steven Arnold). Not sure how he'd manage the voice, though...
