Wimbledon Day Seven: Federer and Williams ease through 'Manic Monday'

After Manic Monday proved to not be as 'manic' as predicted, all eyes turn to the women's quarter-finals, where all the top seeds have been eliminated.

Karolina Pliskova was the final top-10 seed to be eliminated on Monday as she lost to Kiki Bertens in straight sets in one of the biggest shocks of the day.

That means the draw has opened up even more, with Serena Williams ominously creeping back to her best. The 25 seed faces Camila Giorgi second on Centre Court.

*Kerber 2-0 Kasatkina

The German has responded well to that opening game and immediately breaks her opponent. Kasatkina certainly handed her that one, though, giving up her serve on break point with a double fault.

Kerber 3-0 Kasatkina*

Kerber sends a thumping forehand winner down the line for the second point of the game, drawing applause from the SW19 masses. She's finding her flow now and draws a game-winning mistake from Kasatkina after floating in a sliced backhand drop-shot just beyond the net.

*Kerber 3-1 Kasatkina

At last, Kasatkina is finally on the board and will hopefully be encouraged by that. She settled the game with a powerful serve that the German couldn't return.

Kerber 4-1 Kasatkina*

A comfortable hold for the German. Kasatkina certainly looked to have found her rhythm in that game but Kerber's big sweeping crosscourt shots and fierce service game kept her on top. An forced error from the Russian makes it 4-1 in Kerber's favour.

*Kerber 4-2 Kasatkina

Kasatkina is finding Kerber's relentless power a bit too much, as seen at the end of another long rally which the Russian brings to a close by firing her shot into the net. She's trying to mix things up, too, and for one point in that game attempted to intimidate her opponent by rushing towards the net after pushing her out wide. But the German showed fantastic anticipation and execute to send her return down the narrow corridor to Kasatkina's left. A sublime, pin-point winner. However, Kasatkina holds on thanks to some thumping serves and a final smash into space after initially being 40-15 down.

Kerber 4-3 Kasatkina*

What a game! Kasatkina breaks her opponent at the second time of asking after another intensely fought rally. She's showing a hugely impressive range of shots and really starting to push the German back with the power of her baseline strokes. A forehand winner from the Russian settled that game. We're back on serve.

*Kerber 5-3 Kasatkina

The Russian must have expended a lot of energy in that last game as she's just double faulted, twice, to hand Kerber the break. A disappointing outcome after the energy and dynamism of her exploits in the previous game.

Kerber 6-3 Kasatkina

Kerber quickly rushes to three set points but a thumping overhead smash from Kasatkina brings the game to 40-15. The Russian can't capitalise, though, and follows that winner up with a looping forehand stroke that overshoots the baseline to hand Kerber victory in the first set.

There's no denying Kasatkina's raw talent. She's striking the ball with so much power and explosive dynamism. But her exuberance does look to be getting to her. She conceded 13 unforced errors in that first to Kerber's two. If the Russian has got any chance of winning this match she needs to iron out those silly mistakes she's guilty of making.

*Kerber 6-3 0-1 Kasatkina

A strong response from the Russian who comfortably holds. For the game-winning point, Kasatkina smashes a tame over-head volley from Kerber into the space to the German's right.
