Andy Murray has been forced to pull out of next week's Madrid Masters with a back injury.
The world No 4 hopes to return to action at another Masters event in Rome the following week as he builds for the French Open, beginning on 27 May.
Murray, 25, said: "I always love coming to Madrid so it is a big disappointment. I look forward to returning next year."
The Scot has shown decent form on the clay this season, reaching the quarter-finals in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona.
