Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Andy Murray has not won a singles match since the semi-finals of the Australian Open but the world No 5 continues to enjoy success on the doubles court. Twenty-four hours after losing to Donald Young, the world No 143, in the singles at the Indian Wells Masters, Murray and his brother, Jamie, won their second-round match in the doubles, beating the Americans Sam Querrey and John Isner 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.
The Murrays, who beat Marcelo Mello and Bruno Soares in the first round, face a quarter-final against either the world's top-rated pair, the Bryan brothers, or Alexandr Dolgopolov and Xavier Malisse.
Jamie, who recently returned to the top 50 for the first time for two years and is now ranked No 48, will make further progress when the list is updated next week. More than a third of his points total comes from the two tournaments he has played with his brother in the last six months, the Scots having won in Valencia and reached the semi-finals in Rotterdam.
