Tennis: Greg Rusedski beats Yevgeny Kafelnikov in CA Trophy
Greg Rusedski (above), defeated the seventh seed, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, in the first round of the CA Trophy in Vienna yesterday. Rusedski, a finalist last year, needed almost two hours to beat the Russian 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 and set up a second-round match with local hero Thomas Muster at the Stadthalle. "It will be a tough match against Muster. He's playing really well and will have a lot of support," Rusedski said. The British No 2, who was fourth in the world last year, has slipped to 17th after an injury- ravaged summer. "This is my first victory against a top-10 player since my comeback in August," he said. "I'm getting better from tournament to tournament." The No 6 seed, Richard Krajicek, also had a struggle, but beat Albert Costa 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
Anna Kournikova served 17 double-faults, gifting the eighth seed, Dominique Van Roost, a straight-sets win in yesterday's first round of the European Championships in Zurich.
