From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Swindon Town brought Huddersfield's four-match unbeaten run in the First Division to a sudden halt at the County Ground, scoring six times without reply for the biggest win in the Nationwide League this season.

Huddersfield, missing six first-choice players, were four down by the interval. Mark Walters opened the scoring in the 29th minute and Swindon then added two in two minutes through Peter Thorne and Wayne Allison.

The fourth came on the stroke of half-time from Kevin Horlock, and Thorne completed his hat-trick with two goals in two minutes early in the second half.

Two fine goals from Ray Wallace and Richard Forsyth secured Stoke City a deserved victory over a below-par West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Lou Macari's side are now unbeaten in six games and undefeated by Albion in 15 outings over a period of more than seven years.

Albion, with just five points in the bank out of a possible 18 at home this season, had their chances but they were guilty of some poor finishing throughout.

Steve Tilson was Southend's hero with a late winner to enable Ronnie Whelan's team to climb from the depths of the First Division table.

Just 11 minutes remained when the midfielder unleashed a spectacular volley from the edge of the penalty area to claim his first goal of the season to leave 10-man Grimsby deflated.

The visitors were forced to play without midfielder Tommy Widdrington from the 49th minute after he was sent off by the Oxford referee, Rob Harris, for a second bookable offence after bringing down Jeroen Boere.

In the Second Division Millwall leapfrogged Bury to go second by beating them 1-0 at The Den. Anton Rogan scored for the fourth time in as many games after 42 minutes.
