Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

John Daly, the Open champion, has withdrawn from the Canadian Open, which starts today, further depleting a field which includes only three of the top-10 money earners and 20 of the first 50.
Daly, who has had only one week off since winning at St Andrews in July, called the PGA Tour's office in Ponte Vedra, Florida and left a message saying he would not play in the event. He has 14 days to clarify his decision, and said he would send a letter explaining his absence.
Daly's agent, John Mascatelo, said: "When John plays a tournament he likes to give 110 per cent, and he doesn't feel he can do that this time."
Brad Faxon, a Ryder Cup player whose wife is expecting the couple's third child, withdrew last week.
Meanwhile, Solheim Cup player Lora Fairclough takes on Sweden's big three in the Trygg Hansa Open, which begins at Haninge, near Stockholm, today.
The Lancashire player comes up against the holder, Lotta Neumann, the US Open champion, Annika Sorenstam, and Helen Alfredsson. Fairclough, who won at the same course two years ago, has already won the Ford Classic and the European Masters this year.
Australia's Karrie Webb, the winner of the British Open at Woburn three weeks ago, is also in the field chasing a pounds 17,250 first prize. With Laura Davies playing in America, Sorenstam can assure herself of topping the Ford Order of Merit table if she can pull off another victory this week.
