Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Scotland's Peter Nicol will be aiming to upset the world champion, Jansher Khan, for the second time this year in the final of the Hong Kong Open after both earned convincing semi-final victories yesterday. Nicol, the 21-year- old seventh seed, scored a superb 15-7 15-14 17-15 victory over the world No 4, Rodney Eyles of Australia, in 38 minutes. Jansher beat England's Peter Marshall, the third seed, 15-9 15-8 12-15 15-7 in 77 minutes. Jansher was beaten by Nicol in the second round of the Welsh Classic in Cardiff in February. It was Jansher's only defeat this year - and it still rankles. 'I was not very fit then and I remember he said I was getting fat. I did not like that, or getting beaten, so I am really looking forward to playing him now I am strong,' Jansher said. Nicol appeared unmoved and said: 'I am very confident. I think Jansher is looking a wee bit flabby again, just like in Cardiff.'
