Squash: Jahangir scythes down seed
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

JAHANGIR KHAN upset the seedings in his first match in Britain for 21 months yesterday when he beat Chris Walker, England's world No 7, 15-11, 15-13, 15-13, in the first round of the Leekes Classic in Cardiff, writes Richard Eaton.
After being sidelined for a large part of the past year with a back injury, Jahangir looked some way from his best, but still hit too hard for Walker. He also produced some good disguises on a slightly dusty and slippery court, but ran into trouble at 13-8 in the second game. Walker, skilful and tenacious, came back with five winners in a row, two of them eliciting penalty points, and it needed two of Jahangir's best combinations of volley drives and drops to win the game.
Jahangir will today play Adam Schreiber, the Australian qualifier, who defeated Simon Parke, England's world No 11, 15-12, 15-11, 15-11. A better result for England came when Stephen Meads, No 28 in the world, beat Gary Waite, ranked 16 places above him, 15-10, 12-15, 15-3, 15-13.
