Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Carlsberg Export Masters at Kirtons Resort this weekend is the only major international being held in Britain this year and 50 of the world's top water-skiers will compete in the three disciplines of trick, slalom and jumping for the coveted title of overall champion, no mean feat of strength, balance and stamina. The specialists may shine in their individual discipline, but the essence of tournament water skiing is consistency. Patrice Martin, of France, is one such consistent competitor to follow, having held the world overall title for the last four years. British selectors will also be present to assess the up-and-coming young talent with three places remaining in Britain's team for the World Championships in Singapore in September.

How to get there: Kirtons Resort Hotel and Country Club, Pingewood, near Reading, Berkshire. Signposted from junction 11 of M4 and A33. Admission: pounds 2.50 adults, pounds 1.50 children, under-fives free each day. Tomorrow: 8am start, first final at noon. Sunday: 9am start, first final at noon. Medal presentation at 2.55pm. (Tel: 0734- 500885).
