Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Short-circuit racing's appeal is aided by the fact that spectators can watch every lap on the oval course and this weekend the Thunderdrome Challenge brings together a host of leading drivers in this stock car sport, including three world champions. It is the first time Britain has staged an indoor stock car event and Earls Court 2 in London will ensure comfortable spectating for the three shows over the weekend. Three classes will race. 1700cc modified saloons, known as national hot rods, will be complemented by the smaller 1600cc saloons or hot rods and superstox, which are single-seat, hand-built machines. With 16 cars in each race, jockeying for position, the racing will not be dull.

How to get there: Earls Court 2, Warwick Road, London SW5 is opposite Earls Court tube station (District / Piccadilly lines). Tomorrow's Challenge starts at 7pm; on Sunday, 2pm and 7pm. Admission: Saturday pounds 10, pounds 12, pounds 15. Sunday afternoon pounds 8, pounds 9, pounds 12; evening pounds 9, pounds 11, pounds 13. (Ticket hotline: 071-373 8141).
