Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Wales stages its first truck race this weekend when Pembrey Circuit, near Llanelli, hosts the finals of the British Truck Racing Association Championship. In the monster Class C, with engine capacity up to 18.5 litres, Steve Parrish is primed to add the British Championship to the European title he won in Spain two weeks ago. His BP / Atkins Mercedes-Benz produces more than 1,700 horsepower from its 18-litre V10 turbo-charged diesel engine, more than twice the output from a Formula One unit, though Parrish's truck, at six tonnes, is somewhat heavier, and is the most powerful machine to compete at Pembrey. Lighter opposition, though, should have a handling advantage at the demanding South Wales circuit.
How to get there: Pembrey Circuit, Llanelli, Dyfed, is 10 miles west of junction 48, M4. Practice tomorrow begins at 10.15am, with the first race at 2.15pm; pounds 5 adults, children 15 and under free. On Sunday, practice starts at 9am, with a full-day's racing from 9.45am; pounds 8 and free (Tel: 0554-891042).
