The British Mountain Biking Federation is entering its third year and this weekend holds the sport's showpiece, the 7UP-BMBF National championships at Eastnor Park, near Ledbury, at the southern edge of the Malvern Hills in Hereford and Worcestershire. Today the hillclimb championship starts at 10am when 240 riders set out at timed intervals for a race to the top. The National Fun Ride in aid of Oxfam follows at 2pm. Tomorrow, the thrilling downhill championship starts at 9.30am and on Sunday, the cross-country test opens with the veterans' race at 10am. The experts and seniors tackle their 30-mile course at 2pm.
How to get there: Eastnor Castle and Deer Park, Ledbury, Herefordshire. M5, junction seven, following AA signs through Malvern on A449 or from junction one of M50, taking A38 towards Tewkesbury and A438 to Ledbury. Nearest BR stations: Ledbury (five miles) and Great Malvern (10 miles). Daily spectating: pounds 4 adults, pounds 2 children under-11, under-fives free.
