Sports Listings: Plan Ahead
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.THE final entry, when ratified, is likely to make the eighth World Badminton Championships the biggest. Staged in Britain for the first time, they will be held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, opening with the team event from 25 to 30 May and followed by the individual championships from 31 May to 6 June.
The quality field includes a strong team from Indonesia, who performed so well at the All-England Championships at Wembley in March. Darren Hall, the former European champion, and Steve Butler, from Coventry, will be England's medal hopes in the men's singles, while Gillian Gowers and Gillian Clark feature in the women's doubles.
The accommodation section of the Birmingham Convention and Visitor Bureau at the National Exhibition Centre provides a free booking service, which covers many hotels in the city centre and at Edgbaston offering special rates for the championships.
Flights Travel Group Ltd, of Birmingham, is the official travel agent and its subsidiary, Flights Conference Services Ltd, is organising both half- day and day sightseeing tours during the championships.
