From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

GIANLUCA VIALLI, the Chelsea manager, says Lazio are the best football club in Europe this season and he's not wrong.

Top of Serie A and with strength throughout their squad, Lazio look nailed on to progress from their Champions' League group - also containing Chelsea, Marseilles and Feyenoord - and a solid bet to go all the way. Best outsiders might be Fiorentina. They finished their previous group in style, beating Arsenal and drawing 3-3 with Barcelona.

Juventus look a good bet to win the Uefa Cup, having drawn the moderate Greek outfit Olympiakos in the third round.

n Suggested bets: pounds 1 on Lazio to win the European Cup at 4-1 with Coral or Stanley and pounds 1 on Fiorentina to win the European Cup at 25-1 with Ladbrokes; pounds 1 on Fiorentina to win Group B at 4-1 with the Tote; pounds 1 on Juventus to win the Uefa Cup at 6-1 with Ladbrokes. (pounds 4 staked).
