Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Leicester winger Craig Joiner has been called into the Scotland squad for this summer's tour to Fiji and Australia. He will replace Kenny Logan of Wasps, who has failed a fitness test on his injured shoulder. Logan is suffering from ligament damage and is unlikely to play again this season. Joiner has established himself in the Leicester side in this, his second season at Welford Road and scored two tries on Wednesday in a 17-13 defeat by Wasps. The Scotland squad leaves on 18 May for the eight- match tour, including a one-off Test in Fiji.

The former Welsh Rugby Union president Ken Gwilym has died aged 83. He was the president in the 1984-85 season and served as a WRU District A representative for 24 years.

The England forwards coach John Mitchell was among the try scorers as an Invitation XV beat Swansea 57-51 on Wednesday in British Lion Tony Clement's testimonial match.
