SPORTING DIGEST: RUGBY UNION

Scotland's opening Six Nations' Championship match against Italy next season will go ahead in Rome on the weekend of 5 February as scheduled. The Scottish Rugby Union has received an assurance from its Italian counterpart that redevelopment work at the Flaminio Stadium will be completed in time.

Gloucester yesterday finally signed Chris Yates, the Sale centre, on his 28th birthday.
