GREAT BRITAIN begin their attempt to qualify for next year's Winter Olympics in Pool B of the world championships in Eindhoven tomorrow. If they finish in the leading two of a group which includes Poland, Denmark, Japan, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Romania, and China, they will be within a play-off of their first Games since 1972.

FINLAND'S Teemu Selanne broke the National Hockey League's rookie scoring record for a season yesterday when he notched two goals and an assist for Winnipeg Jets against Toronto Maple Leafs. That gave him 111 points for the season, surpassing the 109 set by Quebec's Peter Stastny in 1980-81.
