MANCHESTER CITY may exclude away supporters from Maine Road next season. Their ground capacity has been reduced to 21,500 and their managing director, Colin Barlow, said: 'I cannot see us taking any visiting fans in the foreseeable future. It is unfortunate, but we must look after our own first.'

PORTSMOUTH have failed in their pounds 800,000 attempt to sign Eric Wynalda, the United States international striker, from Saarbrucken. The 24- year-old is to join another German side, VfL Bochum, instead.

DAVID MOORES, the Liverpool chairman, is to underwrite up to pounds 8m of a rights issue to help meet the massive costs of turning Anfield into a 44,000 capacity all-seat stadium.

DANNY WILSON, the former Northern Ireland international midfielder, has been confirmed as the manager of Barnsley in succession to Viv Anderson, who is now the No 2 at Middlesbrough.

TOMMY CASSIDY, the former Newcastle United and Northern Ireland midfielder, has returned to his former Irish league club, Glentoran, as manager. He was in charge at Gateshead, the GM Vauxhall Conference club, until last year.

MARCIANO VINK, the Dutch international midfielder, is to move back to the Netherlands after just one season in Italy, with Genoa. Vink is to sign a three-year contract with PSV Eindhoven, for an undisclosed fee.

THE French international midfielder, Franck Sauzee, formerly with Marseille, has joined Strasbourg for pounds 900,000 after one season in Italy with Atalanta.
