STEVE CASTLE, the Plymouth Argyle captain, has handed in a transfer request. The 28-year-old has been top- scorer at Home Park for the past two seasons, scoring 33 goals since his arrival from Leyton Orient.

LIVERPOOL are giving a trial to the Falkirk defender, David Weir, while Torben Piechnik, the Danish defender given a free transfer by the Anfield team, has failed to agree personal terms with the French Second Division club, Bastia.

LUIS GARCIA, Mexico's World Cup striker, is moving from Atletico Madrid to another Spanish club, Real Sociedad.

TWO Italian international goalkeepers are swapping clubs: Walter Zenga is moving to Sampdoria after 13 seasons with Internazionale, with Gianluca Pagliuca moving in the opposite direction. The Internazionale defender, Riccardo Ferri, is accompanying Zenga to the Genoa club as part of the deal.

CLAUDIO REYNA, a 21-year-old midfielder who was a member of the United States' World Cup squad, is to sign for the German club, Bayer Leverkusen, where he will join his international colleague, Tom Dooley.
