Sporting digest: Football

The Darlington defender Jason De Vos has been called into Canada's squad for Sunday's World Cup qualifier against the United States in Vancouver.

The Chelsea defender Franck Leboeuf has been recalled by France for the friendly against Scotland in Saint Etienne next Wednesday. The 29-year- old centre-half is joined by Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit.

The Australia coach Terry Venables has called up three players from his club, Portsmouth, for the World Cup play-off next month. The former England coach has named the striker John Aloisi and the midfielders Robbie Enes and Craig Foster in a 26-man squad for the two-legged play-off.
