Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Hugh Dallas will take charge of the Old Firm game at Parkhead on 27 December despite Celtic informing the Premier League of their reservations. The appointment was backed by Scottish Premier League officials yesterday. The last time Dallas took charge of a league fixture between the Glasgow rivals in May, he was struck by a coin thrown from the stands by a Celtic supporter. Rangers won the game 3-0 to clinch the title.

Thomas Helmer is returning to Sunderland after the German club Hertha Berlin decided not to extend his loan deal. The 34-year-old former German international defender will not be fit to play again until February because of an Achilles tendon injury.

The Torino goalkeeper Luca Bucci must appear before an Italian Football Federation disciplinary committee following his scuffle with an official from Perugia. Bucci has been accused of stubbing out a cigarette in the official's face.
