Dimitar Dimitrov, the Bulgaria coach, has had his contract extended by the Bulgarian Football Union until 2002 despite his team's failure to qualify for next year's European Championship.

Olympiakos, the Greek champions, have appointed Alberto Bigon as their new coach. Bigon, who won the Italian title with Roma in 1990, replaces Dusan Bajevic.

Dundee have signed the former Southampton striker Nicky Banger from Oxford United on a free transfer. The 28-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at the Scottish Premier League club after impressing during a trial period.

The Southampton captain, Jason Dodd, has been ruled out of action for the next three weeks after an operation on a knee injury. Paul Mardon, the West Bromwich defender, faces a year out after a second knee operation.
