The final round of Euro 2000 qualifying matches, due to be played over the weekend of 9-10 October, will have simultaneous kick-offs if the teams involved are still in contention for a finals place. If the teams cannot agree then Uefa will impose a time. The sport's European governing body also announced yesterday the draw for the play-offs will now take place in Aachen, Germany, on 13 October. The home and away play- offs will take place on 13 or 14, and 17 November.

Lucas Radebe and Phil Masinga have withdrawn from South Africa's squad for next week's Afro-Asian Nations Cup first leg match against Saudi Arabia in Cape Town. Radebe cited commitments with Leeds United while Masinga is refusing to play in South Africa's home games after being abused by spectators in recent internationals.

The Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids has been given permission to play using a banned eyewash. Davids has been advised by the International Olympic Committee that he can continue to use Diamox.

Greece has postponed this weekend's start of the league season for a week after Tuesday's earthquake.

This weekend's Belgian League game between Club Bruges and Anderlecht has been postponed by city authorities following warnings that Anderlecht fans had bought tickets allocated for local supporters.
