Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Fran Gonzalez, the Deportivo la Coruna captain, will miss the start of the Spanish League season next month because of a torn leg muscle. The 30-year-old midfielder will undergo surgery this week and will be out of action for up to two months, making him doubtful for two of Spain's three remaining European Championship Group six qualifiers.

The former Netherlands striker Glenn Helder yesterday signed a two-year contract with the Hungarian champions, MTK Budapest.

The Brazilian striker Elber has returned to training at the German League champions Bayern Munich after four months out with a serious knee injury.

Borussia Dortmund's Germany midfielder Andreas Moller could be unavailable for several weeks after injuring knee ligaments in a pre-season game. Dortmund play in the final round of Champions' League qualification on 10 and 24 August - either side of their opening German League fixture against Kaiserslautern on 14 August.
