Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Zinedine Zidane, the French World Cup-winning midfielder has ruled out leaving his Italian Serie A club, Juventus, at the end of the season to play in Spain. "I'm happy at Juve. I'm staying at Juve," he told a French newspaper. The 26-year-old claimed earlier this month that he might leave the club and move to Spain, primarily to satisfy his wife, who is Spanish. Zidane has told L'Equipe that he had been wrong to announce publicly that his family were not happy in Turin.
Fifa, the governing body of international football, has threatened to suspend Hungary from international football unless the ousted Hungarian Football Federation president Attila Kovacs is reinstated. Hungary's sports minister, Tamas Deutsch, suspended Kovacs and the federation executive committee from office on 4 February after two government inquiries into the running of the federation reported evidence of mismanagement and breach of regulations. Deutsch has since revoked the suspension of the committee but has refused to reinstate Kovacs.
