Brian Lara yesterday scored his 5,000th run in one-day internationals as West Indies ran up a record 293 for 8 against South Africa at the Quadrangular Cup in Lahore. The one-day record total was to no avail as South Africa reached the target with 11 balls to spare, hitting 297 for the loss of five wickets.
