Your support makes all the difference.Two of freestyle skiing's disciplines, aerials and ballet, will be performed at the National Championships on the artificial slope at Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, on Sunday, an occasion that also marks the final of the Subaru Grand Prix series held over the summer. Aerials are acrobatic ski jumps and will be demonstrated at Hemel. Ballet forms the main competition. Here the entrants perform spins, jumps, somersaults and axels, choreographed to music as they descend the slope. It was in competition like this that the freestyle skiiers, Julia Snell, winner of Britain's first World Cup gold medal, Jilly Curry and Richard Cobbing learned their skills before applying them successfully on snow.
How to get there: Hemel Ski Centre, St Albans Hill, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, is reached from junction eight of M1 or junction 20 of M25 and is signposted. The aerials demonstration starts at 2.15pm, followed by National Freestyle Championships and Grand Prix final at 3pm. Spectating is free. (Tel: 0442- 213755).
