From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With Scotland playing in the European Championship in Moscow next month, the Scottish Football Association have applied for 70 visas but Gough's name is not among them. Craig Brown, the Scotland manager, said: "I can confirm I did not ask for a visa for Richard Gough."
With 70 players in the frame, Brown has asked for a visa for the uncapped Colin Calderwood, the Spurs defender, and Gough, who has been capped 61 times, agreed that his time in a Scotland jersey was over. "If I haven't been included in the 70 it looks like that's it for me.
"It's sad to think I won't play again but I am not distraught about it. Craig has his views and he is entitled to them."
Rangers and Celtic are both looking to bring in new players ahead of the transfer deadline of 31 March. Rangers have been linked with several top players, including Gary McAllister of Leeds, and certainly on the evidence of Saturday's 3-0 win over Kilmarnock, Walter Smith, the Rangers manager, will want to increase his staff.
Celtic could also make moves with Tommy Burns, their manager, admitting he has identified a couple of players in Europe who would fit in at the club. Burns' frustrations mounted on Saturday as his men once again drew, with Hearts, after leading. Celtic have now drawn 16 of their 26 games this season.
Billy McKinlay, the Dundee United midfield player, is currently the subject of interest from Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City and given his current contractual difficulties with the club, United are likely to listen to offers for the player who is rated at around £2m.
Falkirk are looking to the experience of Maurice Johnston, the former Rangers, Celtic and Everton player, to keep them in the Premier Division. Tim Jefferies, the Falkirk manager, was yesterday locked in talks with Johnston and hopes to prise him away from Hearts.
