Schwer forswears meat to improve mettle
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Beef is off the menu for the Commonwealth lightweight champion, Billy Schwer. Dairy products are also forbidden for the Luton fighter who is attempting to to toughen his cut-prone skin.
Schwer, who defends his Commonwealth title against South Africa's Ditau Molefyane at the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow, has spent around pounds 2,000 on medical tests and advice trying to find ways of hardening his complexion. Cuts were responsible for Schwer's eighth-round International Boxing Federation title defeat against Rafael Ruelas in Las Vegas in January.
The condition is, however, not just skin deep. A dietary problem has been diagnosed, hence, Schwer's new menu.
Schwer, who has two stoppage victories to his credit since the Ruelas fight without getting cut, said: " I think it's working, and I'm pleased with it, but I'm not going to say it's going to stop me getting cut. All I can say is there definitely has been an improvement."
