Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Meanwhile the Lions will probably be spared facing John Timu, the outstanding New Zealand full-back, when they play the Maoris in Wellington on Saturday. Timu has a knee injury which is also likely to keep him out of the final All Blacks trial in Pukekohe next Tuesday - both absences being precautionary to ensure his fitness for the first Test in Christchurch on 12 June.
England have an injury worry over Steve Ojomoh as they prepare for the second match of their Canadian tour against a British Columbian President's XV in Vancouver tomorrow.
The Bath forward flanker is still feeling the effects of Saturday's bruising 26-10 victory over British Columbia and could be replaced by Harlequins' Richard Langhorn.
Wales ran in 10 tries in the second game of their African tour, defeating Zimbabwe B 64-13 in Harare. Mike Rayer, playing on the wing, and the full-back Ian Jones got two tries each, while Neil Jenkins scored 19 points. Other tries were scored by Paul Arnold, Ian Buckett, Simon Hill, Rob Howley and Hugh Woodland.
Wales: I Jones; S Hill, N Boobyer, H Woodland, M Rayer; N Jenkins, R Howley; I Buckett, R McBryde, J Davies, P Arnold, A Copsey, A Williams, S Davies (capt), M Perego.
