Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

LEROY RIVETT, who broke the Challenge Cup final record by scoring four tries at Wembley 10 days ago, is in Great Britain's training squad to prepare for the Tri-series against Australia and New Zealand this autumn.

The 22-year-old winger is one of nine Leeds players in the squad, which will be reduced to 23 before it leaves for the southern hemisphere.

Ryan Sheridan, who is also uncapped, is another of that healthy Headingley contingent.

Other players who have emerged from relative obscurity to stake a claim for international recognition include the Bradford props, Paul Anderson and Stuart Fielden, Castleford's in-form stand-off, Danny Orr, the Wigan three-quarter Paul Johnson, and Sheffield's utility forward Darren Turner.

Among the more surprising omissions on this season's form are Wigan's equally versatile Mick Cassidy, Alan Hunte and Lee Penny, both of Warrington, the experienced props, Paul Broadbent and Dean Sampson, and Huddersfield's former Great Britain scrum-half, Bobbie Goulding.

Salford have been reassured that Darren Brown, their Australian second- rower, has not broken his thumb again.

Browne, just back from that injury, took a knock during the defeat at Bradford on Sunday and is likely to miss the game against Leeds tonight, but has been cleared of serious damage.

Iestyn Harris, the Leeds captain, also expects to miss that match but hopes to be fit for the visit to his former club, Warrington, on Sunday.

Harris's Welsh team-mate, Anthony Sullivan, faces a longer lay-off. The winger dislocated his shoulder playing for St Helens at Huddersfield on Friday night and will be out for six weeks, a blow to the Super League leaders after 10 tries in six games since his belated start to the season.

Talk Radio has denied that it has made an offer or is in negotiation for the right to broadcast Super League games, currently held by Radio 5 and BBC local radio.
