Rest of British: Who else can lead the world a dance at the Winter Games?: Torvill and Dean - Ice dancing
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.RAVEL was never the same again. Like the work of so many composers, his Bolero lay unnoticed by the masses until popularised by another form of artistic endeavour. Still he could have endured a worse fate than having Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean thrust his haunting piece to prominence with a performance that was as near perfection as possible in their own field.
That was at the Olympics in Sarajevo 10 years ago. Now, in their mid-thirties, Torvill and Dean are back. They have changed little but their sport has. The move towards artistry and ballet they sparked went too far. Back to the ballroom is the order of today and T and D have attempted to lead the new movement with their 'Let's face the music and dance'. They did not have it quite right in the judges' eyes at the European Championships last month, but won the title on countback. Expect subtle changes.
