Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

So often the best supporting actor, Dandy Man (3.10) can finally claim top billing in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York today. An experiment over six furlongs did not pay off in the July Cup last time, but he showed all his usual speed before fading into fifth. With a better draw he might have won at Royal Ascot two years running, and he is the class act in this field. True, he ran dismally here last year, but he hated the soft ground and conditions have been drying out nicely since the start of the meeting. You'resothrilling looks sure to be suited by a mile next year and in the Jaguar Lowther Stakes she faces a very fast filly in Visit (2.05). Defeat for the Irish filly under her penalty would by no means disqualify her as a Guineas contender. The Illies (2.35 next best) improved dramatically at Ascot last time and remains on a fair mark, but perhaps the best bet of the day is Racer Forever (3.50 nap). He has finished fastest of all in both starts since being fitted with blinkers and was unlucky not to catch the flourishing Third Set when giving him 15lb and meeting traffic at Ascot last time.
