Point to Point: Weather knocks out meetings
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. Not surprisingly all seven of this weekend's meetings have fallen victim to the weather, but only the United Services at Larkhill will not be rearranged.
The Harkaway Club (Chaddesley Corbett); Cambridge University Draghounds (Cottenham) and the South Midlands Area Club (Tweseldown) try again on Sunday, 15 February, while the Old Raby Hunt (Witton Castle) has been rescheduled for Sunday, 22 February. The South Devon (Ideford Arch) hope to race on the 21st while the South Dorset (Milborne St Andrew) are looking for a new date. Following drainage problems at the Netherby course in the Borders, near the fast-following River Esk, the Dumfriesshire & Stewartry meeting on 22 February, has been moved to the Overton course near Carluke, Lanarkshire.
Due to problems of a more agricultural nature, the Cilwendeg course in Dyfed, West Wales, cannot be used this season. Cattle grazing on the track have been isolated due to the threat of bovine tuberculosis though none of the herd is carrying the disease. The Tivyside meeting planned for Saturday, 14 March has been transfered to Lydstep, Dyfed, and will take place on Sunday, 19 April, while the Llandeilo Farmers on Saturday, 4 April will be run on that day but at Erw Lon, Carmarthenshire.
