From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

SAYYEDATI picked up pounds 91,812 for her connections by finishing third behind Ski Paradise and Zieten in the Group Two pounds 368,550 Keio Hai Spring Cup over seven furlongs at Tokyo Racecourse in Japan yesterday.
Held up in the rear in the early stages by Walter Swinburn, Sayyedati had had only one behind her as the field turned into the two-and-a-half furlong home straight, but the filly found a smooth passage through on the inside rail and, finishing fast, failed by just a nose to peg back Zieten for second place.
Brittain said: 'Sayyedati ran an extremely good race and I thought that she'd just got up for second. I'm delighted with her - she'll come on for the race and must have a great chance in the Yasuda Kinen.'
The first four home are expected to clash again, at level weights, in the Group 1 Yasuda Kinen, at the same course but over an extra furlong, on 15 May.
RESULT: 1. SKI PARADISE (Yutaka Take); 2. Zieten; 3. Sayyedati. 16 ran. 1 1/2 , nose. (Winner trained in France by Andre Fabre). Tote (100 yen stake): 220; 120, 280, 210. CSF: 1,040.
