Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Among the many rewards for John Reid for winning Saturday's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes for Godolphin, is a ride for the stable in another Group One race.

The Ulsterman, who rode Swain to victory at Ascot, has been called up to partner Allied Forces in tomorrow's Sussex Stakes. The Godolphin team had been searching for a big-race rider since Frankie Dettori had been ruled out of the pounds 125,000 event by suspension.

Reid has benefited from Dettori's absence in the past, notably when landing the Eclipse Stakes on Halling for Godolphin last year. He will be attempting a second Sussex Stakes triumph, having scored on On The House in 1982. Richard Hills will ride Godolphin's other runner, Alhaarth.

Allied Forces, the Queen Anne Stakes winner, is 6-1 third favourite for the one-mile contest with William Hill, having finished fourth over two furlongs further in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown last time.

Just ahead of him in the betting at 5-1 -and behind only the 6-4 market leader Starborough, is Air Express, whose trainer, Clive Brittain, is attempting to win his third Group race in three different countries within five days.

Greenlander started the sequence in France on Saturday when taking the Group Two Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte and then his stable-companion Luso kept up the good work in the Group One WGZ Bank Deutschland Preis at Dusseldorf on Sunday.

Brittain believes Greenlander "could develop into a series Guineas candidate" having made a winning debut at Yarmouth only this month.

Luso was recording his seventh European Group success and his second in Germany - both at Group One level - having won the Aral Pokal last season.
