The voice of racing, Peter O'Sullevan, has set a date for his retirement and will hand over his microphone at the BBC to J A McGrath after Glorious Goodwood next July. O'Sullevan started commentating in 1947 and will be 79 when he retires.

"I don't want to outstay my welcome but I would also like to get 50 Royal Ascots and Goodwoods under my belt," he said. "I have to do more homework these days and people always remember the mistakes."

Two of Jenny Pitman's stalwarts, Garrison Savannah and Willsford, have been retired.
