Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

JOHN GOSDEN yesterday declared Russian Revival a probable runner in tomorrow's Tote International Stakes. As his four-year-old tops the handicap at Ascot, his presence will mean that the weights for the pounds 150,000 contest will not rise.

Gosden had been considering Sunday's Prix Maurice de Gheest as an alternative for the Cork & Orrery Stakes runner-up but he withdrew the horse from that French Group One contest yesterday morning.

"At the moment Russian Revival is a probable runner at Ascot and Lanfranco Dettori will ride him," the trainer said. "But they have had 13mm of rain overnight and if they got much more we would have to review the situation."

Other withdrawals from the Maurice de Gheest include Gorse, Bold Edge, Andreyev and Caballero. But Gosden's Bertolini (to be ridden by Gary Stevens) is among seven British declarations for the event. He will be joined by Sampower Star, Diktat, Tomba, Arkadian Hero, Vision Of Night and Black Amber.
