Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

NEWBURY 2.00

Last year's Derby second Blue Judge was just touched off in this race 12 months ago and three of today's runners are entered in the Epsom Classic. The best may be WISHING, whose experience against better rivals before winning a Newmarket maiden can be decisive.

AYR 2.25

Rusty Reel and Daring Past have solid winning form, the latter beating decent opposition at Newbury last time. But both must concede a stone or more to BALLON, whose turn of foot was impressive when she returned to the favoured good ground she gets today at Newcastle last month.

NEWBURY 2.30

Cairo Prince, fourth in the 1993 Derby, made a winning racecourse debut at this meeting a year ago but disappointed after Epsom. Right Win was rated his superior at the end of last season, but CAPTAIN HORATIUS comes from a stable in form and will have a fitness edge over most of his rivals.

AYR 2.55

BAYDON STAR returns to his ideal trip and the fast ground he favours and cannot be opposed. Defeat by Nakir at Cheltenham was no disgrace as the ground was too soft and the trip too short. The winner has confirmed the form with victory again since. Gallateen could not cope with Monsieur Le Cure or the heavy ground at Aintree and is preferred to the one-paced See More Indians for the forecast.

NEWBURY 3.00

Turtle Island was rated the best of these at two and his trainer at last struck form yesterday, but he may not find as much improvement as DIESAN. John Gosden's colt progressed rapidly last autumn, winning a Doncaster nursery under a big weight in a very fast time.

AYR 3.25

High Baron and DIZZY may fight out the finish. The former ended a disappointing sequence with an Ascot win but his temperament has been questioned. The mare, whose stable is in fine form, takes on loftier company than usual here but last year's Champion Hurdler Granville Again has deteriorated and Corrouge ran in a gruelling, heavy- ground contest at Aintree. The selection proved her liking for a sound surface in taking Cheltenham's County Hurdle.

NEWBURY 3.30

Many of these ran in the Lincoln three weeks ago, when Just You Dare finished second and Missed Flight was disqualified after passing the post third. But PRENONAMOSS, promoted to sixth place, suffered considerable interference and on 3lb better terms can come out best on this occasion.

AYR 4.05

Although 23 are scheduled to go to post, with 13 carrying more than their long- handicap weight, four having had only a week to recover from their Grand National ordeal and several more out of form, the race is more straightforward than first appearances indicate. Three progressive types take the eye: Bishops Island, Tartan Tyrant and SHRADEN LEADER, and it is the latter who seems best handicapped although he is unproven over the trip.

AYR 4.40

MARTOMICK may well have won the Sun Alliance Chase but for a blunder two fences from home. She took on her Cheltenham conqueror again at Aintree but drifted in the betting because of the heavy ground and was pulled up. Today's less testing surface should enable her to dominate lesser opposition.
