Racing: Daylami becomes market leader
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.DAYLAMI, REPRESENTING the Godolphin juggernaut, has been installed as favourite for Saturday's Newmarket showpiece, the pounds 400,000 Champion Stakes. The grey, winner of the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in July and the Man O'War Stakes at Belmont, New York, last month, is one of yesterday's 11 acceptors for the contest, writes Sue Montgomery.
He is a best-priced 13-8 with Ladbrokes and the Tote at this stage, but though he is a unanimous choice as market leader, the layers diverge thereafter with One So Wonderful, Chester House, Mutamam and Alborada jostling for second spot.
One So Wonderful and Chester House were split by about a foot when first and third in the Juddmonte International in August and Alborada chased Swain home in the third leg of the 10-furlong ``quadruple crown'', the Irish Champion Stakes in September, when One So Wonderful was only fourth.
Mutamam completed a hat-trick in lesser company in the Select Stakes at Goodwood the same day.
Mary Reveley, attempting to land her third Tote Cesarewitch in four years, is responsible for three of the 33 five-day acceptors, which are headed by Bold Gait. The Saltburn trainer saddles last year's winner Turnpole, the ante-post favourite Lord Lamb, and Robbo.
