Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

RON BOSS kept his word by providing owner Bernard Gover with an outside chance of winning his company's sponsorship money back in the 1,000 Guineas on 28 April.

He produced bargain buy Lady Fairfax to land the Masaka Stakes at Kempton on Saturday and earn a run in the Newmarket Classic which is sponsored by Gover's debt-collecting company, Madagans.

Lady Fairfax, who cost Boss 5,000 guineas as a yearling, showed courage under a typically forceful ride by Pat Eddery to snatch a head victory from Threatening with the remainder well strung out behind.

Lady Fairfax was later given a top-priced 50-1 quote for Newmarket. Thabit, the first leg of a Willie Carson treble at Kempton, was quoted at 33-1 for the Derby after turning the Fifield Maiden Stakes into a procession, making all the running before easing down to win by eight lengths.

This afternoon's scheduled race meeting at Uttoxeter was called off last night after further rain waterlogged the course.
