Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

n To make this a three-peat is something I'm pretty proud of. Right now it's kind of a blur, to be honest. Pete Sampras on his third Wimbledon victory.

n We were all pretty pumped. I really dedicated this win to Tim [Gullikson]. He's a true champion. The way he has handled his treatment has been an inspiration. He's in great spirits and is hoping to do some travelling by the end of the year. Sampras after phoning his coach who is recovering after brain surgery.

n When he's on the court he doesn't let anything disturb him. That's probably what you have to do to serve about 45 times on the lines. Unfortunately he owns the Centre Court now. I used to be the one who has the key. Boris Becker after losing to Sampras.

n I never did a lap of honour before even though I've lost four finals here now. So it was a really nice feeling when they asked me to do the lap. Becker.

n The only record I've ever pursued vigorously was winning nine singles titles here and Billie Jean helped me to do that. So I don't really want to take a record from her. Martina Navratilova, now one title short of Billie Jean King's record of 20.

n At this moment I have no idea whether I'll be back at Wimbledon. But who knows, I might even come back in singles. I don't know if I have the nerve for it, but I might. I doubt it, but I'm very pleased with the way I've played this week especially considering I had only one previous match since November. Navratilova.
