Q&A: Cricket's ultimate fair-weather fan
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Q. In a run of 22 games to the end of November watching my team, Grimsby Town, play, I saw only one win. Even that single victory was on the day we were relegated to the Second Division. These trips resulted in travelling 3,500 miles over a season and a half. Can anybody match this dismal record?
A. In my cricket-watching travels I have two very long records, indeed, but neither of them dismal. Until last year I had never seen Somerset lose; in 1997 they lost four of the five games I watched. More remarkably, I have watched England and Australia doing battle 22 times over the years, in both Test matches and one-day internationals, and have yet to see the Australians win. Perhaps the England team should take me with them as Official Spectator Down Under next winter.

A. Every time I go and see my local Football League side play, which is about 10 times a season, they fail to win. But then again this probably does not count, seeing as I live in Doncaster.
T Williams, Doncaster
